BCS Bowl Team Graduation Rates (From The Sports... →
The average graduation rate for the 10 teams participating in the marquee BCS bowls is 61% .
What’s more? Of the 67 BCS teams, the graduation rate for African-American male students as a whole is only 38 percent, in comparison to the 62 percent graduation rate for white male students.
A 24% gap.
Interesting stuff.

What I've Discovered About Twitter (From The Ocean... →
Every time I tell someone what I do, they ask me about Twitter. What is it? Why should I care about what you ate for breakfast?”
This article is a compact little summary of my response. It was inspired by a post by Vanessa Meimis, a very intelligent Twitter user who runs the Emergent By Design blog.
Some people on Twitter who really influence me everyday:
Sarah Evans, Lauren...

Evolution of 50 Brand Logos →
The logo is such a fascinating and interesting concept. Perfect example of collective consciousness at work — what makes something decidedly “modern” versus old and stale? Especially when it comes to something as subjective as design?

Watched the 30 for 30 on the U tonight on ESPN, it was pretty good.
Proud of ESPN for tackling issues of class and race (or at least attempting to), in highlighting the greatest college football run in history.
More than anything, the U was the start of a major shift in public consciousness from college football that was defined by tradition and true amateurism to today’s big money big...

Study Finds That Online Education Beats the... →
To be fair, most of the data collected came from people in college and adult education settings, but there was still data from K-12.
How can we best integrate online learning, research and education in our educational system?

I know you may hate me for embedding a 96 slide power point presentation on the blog, but it’s great.
I love a presentation that embraces complexity rather than simplicity.
This presentation has really helped me to understand some buzz words like augmented reality and transmedia storytelling.
Thanks for teaching me, Gunther Sonnenfeld.

I know that online video has had a “next hot thing” tag for the last five years — but companies like Cisco are discovering how powerful the medium can be to drive social media storytelling and messaging.
MMMM transparency.

Why Peter King Should Not Write About the NFL
Sports Illustrated is currently doing a retrospective by sport for the last decade.
For the NFL, of course, they have hired their wonderful analyst Peter King. For those who don’t follow Peter King’s columns, he is notoriously a Brett Favre fan boy and most of his coverage begins with, “I was texting with Brett last night.”
So without further ado, the “Most dramatic...

Ask yourself right now, why would you become a fan of a brand on Facebook?
My three answers:
1) Special offers.
2) Contests.

Is "Tigergate" The End of Athlete Endorsments As...
What Tigergate has done is shattered the notion that brand marketers can take a human being, create the ultimate public persona for commercial purposes and control that human being so flawlessly that the difference between the man and the legend never becomes visible to the public.

Are Brands Partly Responsible for the NFL’s... →
I’m not saying that advertising and marketing is solely responsible for the NFL’s concussion problem, but I think it definitely played a part in creating the hyper-masculine culture that actively encourages players to give themselves life long injuries.
Do you agree?

Great Example of Branded Entertainment
EPISODE 1: “Yogurt Gets Rocked” by brainstormtv
American’s are subject to at least 5,000 advertising messages per day. As consumer’s attention grows scarce, and as we become wary of traditional advertising, brands need to think outside the box.
Look. Advertising and marketing are increasingly ubiquitous. Instead of fighting this inevitability, let’s just hold these...

You know a business idea, like any idea, is great when you see it, understand it immediately and then smack yourself in the forehead for not coming up with it. It doesn’t take a lot of research to imagine the implications of this product.
